Dr. Sultan Temuri – Resume

Dr. Sultan Azam Temuri belongs to the prestigious Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) and has retired from service in January 2022 after serving 33 years in different senior Police assignments within the country and abroad. He has served more than six years in United Nations Peace Keeping Operations.

Internationally, he served in Bosnia Herzegovina and worked with United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) from 1994 to 1995 during the peak of conflict at Balkans. In Post Dayton Accord period, he again served with United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNMIBH) from 2000 to 2001 as Human Rights Officer at Main HQ in Sarajevo. He also worked as an Investigator in Daruvar, Sector West and was part of Special Investigation Task Force at Pakrac. He monitored and investigated Human Rights Violation cases in Bosnia and recommended action against violators.

Experience

Dr. Temuri has received prestigious gold medal (CROIX D’ HONNEUR POLICIER EUROPE’EN) on 4th April 2004 by the European Union Police Association for his outstanding performance during UN Mission in Bosnia Herzegovina.


Dr. Temuri has served in United Nations African Union Hybrid Operations in Darfur (UNAMID) from 2009 to 2011 as Chief of Darfur Peace Agreement (DPA) Implementation Coordinator/Deputy Sector Commander on a professional position and later served as Deputy Police Commissioner/Acting Police Commissioner in UNAMID from 10 December 2018 till 31 December 2020. He supervised the capacity building of Sudanese Police Force (SPF) through training, infrastructure and equipment, monitored Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) cases and protected 1.8 million IDPs in Darfur through Formed Police Units (FPUs). He served as Officer in charge of UNAMID Police Component till 30th June 2021 to supervise the drawdown of UNAMID from Darfur.

He remained as Inspector General of Police at the Capital Territory Police, Islamabad and has commanded two largest and most challenging Regions in Pakistan as Deputy Inspector General. He worked with National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and formulated National Anti-corruption strategy and worked with National Police Academy and trained Newly recruited Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs). He also served at the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and closely dealt with Counter Terrorism (CT) and Counter Violent Extremism (CVE).

Courses

Dr. Temuri represented UNAMID Police Component as Acting Police Commissioner in Police Weeks at New York and addressed C-34 at UN General Assembly on UNAMID Transition in 2019.

Dr. Temuri successfully completed the National Security Workshop (NSW)-23 from 18 October to 19 November 2021at National Defense University (NDU) and international training courses to improve his professional capabilities, core and managerial competencies for successful performance of my job. 

Dr. Temuri has a vast experience in Security, Community Policing, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), training, combating organized crime, human rights violation, anti-corruption and terrorism related crime.
